The software manufacturer will be selling its patented EtherLoop technology to broadband services providers installing high-speed Internet broadcast video lines into 510,000 guest rooms at 3,200 hotels in 100 countries and territories.

The specific value and length of the contract was not disclosed but it is believed to be the largest contract in the Georgia firm's history.

In a prepared statement from Elastic Networks, Gustaaf Schrils, vice president, Americas information technology for Six Continents Hotels, says his firm considered several technologies including Ethernet over VDSL, xDSL and HPNA but EtherLoop from Elastic Networks "was the clear choice."

Under the agreement, service providers offering broadband services to Six Continents Hotels will be "strongly recommended" to use Elastic Networks' products, according to the statement.

Demand from business and vacation travelers prompted Six Continents to upgrade its service.

"We see robust growth in broadband deployment in hotel properties over the next four years," Amy Helland, an industry analyst for Cahners In-State Group of Newton, MA, says in the statement.

Six contents Hotels is the hotel business side of Six Continents PLC of the United Kingdom Hotels. Elastic Networks has a Hong Kong office.

Elastic Networks common on the Nasdaq National Market closed Aug. 28 at $1 per share on volume of 97,250, down one cent from the previous day. The 52-week high-low is $15.87 and 84 cents. The company's market capitalization is $31.52 million.
