The MEDC provided the funding to boost economic development in the city's Downtown area.
The city has been on the brink of bankruptcy, having trouble paying its bills and salaries for workers. An emergency financial manager, Louis Schimmel, recently said efforts are continuing to bring Hamtramck out of deficit.
"Hamtramck is making a great comeback, and it's because the state, county and city government are working together," says Wayne County Executive Edward McNamara.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has given the city $1 million to rebuild Vincent Street.
The deli company says it will build a new plant on Vincent, replacing a blighted, abandoned industrial facility that has been vacant for eight years.
The fund was established through a $50-million appropriation from the state. The fund's purposes include promoting private investment, encouraging mixed-use development and the redevelopment of obsolete buildings.
