The automaker, which is relocating from City of Industry, plans to expand its parts distribution throughout the United States and is confident that the new location will be ideal for effective distribution of Volkswagen and Audi parts on the West Coast. The property is located just a few miles from the Ontario International Airport and the FedEx shipping hub.
"Location, timing and building image were key factors for selecting this facility," says Dale Hawke of Volkswagen. "We knew that we wanted a state-of-the-art building in a high-image, master-planned park near the Ontario International Airport and the ProLogis facility suited our needs. ProLogis was already in the pre-construction phase for this building ensuring that we could take occupancy quickly."
ProLogis negotiated the deal in house, while Trammel Crow brokered the lease on behalf of Volkswagen. Volkswagen plans to open its new location as soon as this fall, and will offer jobs to all employees at the City of Industry facility.
"We are pleased to be able to provide Volkswagen with this infill location in a short amount of time," says Larry Harmsen of Prologis. "Although large tracts of land in the Inland Empire are becoming scarce, as the largest owner in the Inland Empire, we continue to seek strategic land sites to meet the distribution needs of customers like Volkswagen."
