Financing was provided largely by Ford's wife, Josephine. "Mrs. Ford's $20-million donation helps us realize Mr. Ford's vision for CCS and secure its status as one of the country's leading institutions of arts education," says CCS President Richard L. Rogers. "The fundamental mission of CCS is to nurture creativity, and the new Walter B. Ford II Building gives us more high tech resources and space in which to serve our students. It is a dynamic symbol of Detroit's cultural life that contributes to the city's renewal."
New York-based Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates designed the building and Ghafari Associates of Dearborn, MI was the managing architect. Ford & Earl Associates of Troy, MI designed signage. Barbara Marini, chair of the school's interior design department, directed interior design.
Ford was a school trustee, board president and chairman. He is not related directly to the Ford family of automotive fame, though his wife is a member of that Ford family.
