Ground-breaking is tentatively scheduled for January with expected completion in fourth quarter 2003. The $100 million hard construction cost equates to $93,457 per room, about half the cost of a luxury, five-star inn today, local construction industry estimators tell GlobeSt.com.
The addition will be erected next to the existing 14-story, 470-room hotel. The total 1,070 room will push the Omni's room count ahead of the 1,068-room Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Downtown. The 1,675-room Marriott Marquis is the largest Atlanta hotel.
The new hotel is part of Turner's previously reported $1.2 billion development plan for Midtown.
