The purpose for allowing greater density would be to provide an alternative to constructing more office buildings and to diversify the housing stock in Troy, says City Manager John Szerlag.

Szerlag has presented a proposal to the council by Tadian Homes for such a multifamily project. The development would be called Back Bay Village, and built on 5.8 acres, replacing Big Beaver Elementary School off the northeast corner of Rochester and Big Beaver roads.

The topic will be discussed at tonight's council meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Condominium developers have already said they've been trying to build in Troy for many years, and that it is a hot market.
