Next month, construction workers are scheduled to demolish the former hospital building, which closed in 1999. The facility's 350-space parking structure will remain, and the new Metropolitan at Arlington apartment community will be constructed around it. KSI had to get approval from the Arlington County Board to have the area re-zoned for residential use. "[We are] taking an abandoned property and recycling it for an attractive and needed residential use," says Richard Knapp, KSI's Senior Vice President.
The builders plan to offer all the amenities that come with luxury facilities, including fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and gourmet kitchens. Even the former hospital parking structure will be spruced up with new brick columns and planted shrubbery. The mid-rise community will offer residents easy access to both businesses and entertainment venues.
