The exemption would apply only to the residential portion of projects in the City Center area of Downtown, which surrounds SeaTac Mall and SeaTac Village.

The city will host a public hearing on the tax exemption at 7 p.m. today in City Council Chambers, at 33530 First Way S. The council will vote on the boundaries of the proposal tonight. The vote for the proposal itself has yet to be scheduled.

Proponents think it will spark more mixed-use development in the area. Opponents decry the potential loss of property tax revenue for schools and fire districts.
