"This is a great step in the transformation of Mountain Creek," according to Jeff Patterson, director of development. "The Appalachian will be a marquee slopeside building."

Appalachian Lodge is the first building is what Intrawest envisions as a master-planned village featuring shops, restaurants, galleries, hotels and lodges and mountain homes. "It will feature classic regional Adirondack influences from the past," according to Patterson, who anticipates a spring 2002 groundbreaking and a spring 2003 completion.

Intrawest began developing village-based resorts 15 years ago. Its list of projects includes Blackcomb Mountain at Whistler in British Columbia; Tremblant in Quebec, Canada; Mt. Stratton in Vermont; and Copper Mountain in Colorado.
