Ace Schlameus and Jay Kyle, both of the Houston office of Grubb & Ellis Co., represented the seller, with the buyer acting on its own behalf. The 50-year-old building was on the market for about six months at an asking price of roughly $185,000.
Schlameus tells GlobeSt.com that the building was the former headquarters of the United Paperworkers International Union. In 1999, the union merged with the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union. The consolidated union inherited a better facility and subsequently opted to sell the aging Pasadena structure.
The consolidated union, Pace, covers a variety of occupations including paper, allied-industrial, chemical , energy workers and registered nurses. The union's workers work in fields such as chemicals, nuclear materials, pharmaceuticals, vehicle parts, appliances, small engines, motorcycles, boxes, tissues, toys, cement and corn sugar production.
