President George W. Bush's 2002 budget includes $18 million for land purchases for new cemeteries in the vicinity of Detroit, Pittsburgh and Sacramento, CA.

Now, Veteran's Administration officials have said they would like to use the Holly property for the Detroit area cemetery after many other properties in the area were investigated.

The former farm is zoned agricultural and requires 5-acre lots, so many developers have shied away from the property.

Currently, the closest veteran's cemetery is at least 350 miles away.

The VA is now accepting public input on the plan. A few township residents have said the cemetery will bring too much traffic.
