Council members Annise Parker, Bruce Tatro and Bert Keller also tagged the item. Lakewood's bid to lease the Compaq Center includes paying the city $9.5 million upon finalizing the lease agreement, spending $69 million on facility improvements and $150,000 per year in rent free days at the Compaq Center and Lakewood's East Houston Campus.

Councilman Mark Goldberg suggested tags be removed and the contract proposal be sent back to the fiscal committee for further review. Other council members agreed, but Mayor Lee Brown tagged the item in an apparent attempt to keep the proposal from dying in the fiscal committee.

City council members will discuss the item again next Wednesday.
