Council members Annise Parker, Bruce Tatro and Bert Keller alsotagged the item. Lakewood's bid to lease the Compaq Center includespaying the city $9.5 million upon finalizing the lease agreement,spending $69 million on facility improvements and $150,000 per yearin rent free days at the Compaq Center and Lakewood's East HoustonCampus.

Councilman Mark Goldberg suggested tags be removed and thecontract proposal be sent back to the fiscal committee for furtherreview. Other council members agreed, but Mayor Lee Brown taggedthe item in an apparent attempt to keep the proposal from dying inthe fiscal committee.

City council members will discuss the item again nextWednesday.
