The development will include 34 family and single independent living units along with a 30-unit single-room-occupancy residence for low-income and homeless people with HIV or AIDS. It also will include a wellness center and multi-purpose center, which also will be available for residents of the neighborhood.

Completion is expected in 2004.

"This project is a dream realized to develop a resident campus for people living with HIV/AIDS," says AIDSCare founder and president Jim Flosi. "Upon its completion, we will be able to provide additional housing and support in communities that have been heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS."

Besides buying the 2.7 acres from the city for $20, AIDSCare will get $1.2 million in federal Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS funds. US Department of Housing and Urban Development and Illinois FIRST money also will be used, as well as a donation from the Daniel Ruscitti Charitable Trust.
