The opening of the facility also marks the culmination of a 34-year effort by Secaucus-based Hartz to build out its 750-acre Harmon Cove mixed-use project out of undeveloped marshlands within a few miles of Manhattan. The 18-acre site occupied by the Corporate Express facility was the last developable site within the larger tract.

From those marshlands, Hartz has fashioned a sprawling complex of 13 million sf of warehouse, distribution and office space, as well as a retail component of 120 outlet stores, three hotels and 1,400 luxury residences. The Meadowlands Hospital is located within Harmon Cove, as is the U.S. headquarters of Panasonic.

Doing the honors for Corporate Express' ribbon cutting were the company's NY Metro Division president, James Simms, along with Hartz president/COO Emanuel Stern and Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell.
