LaWare was a member of the Federal Reserve from 1988 to 1995. He is a Harvard graduate who began working for the Chemical Bank in New York in 1953. LaWare had 25-year career with the bank and spent time as the senior lending officer before organizing its holding company operations and marketing divisions. He also served as chairman, CEO and director of Shawmut National Corp., a super-regional bank holding company.
