John Anderson, a local car dealer who competed with Ikea for the right to negotiate for a 10-acre site in the Ravenswood 101 shopping center, has gained community support for a proposal he presented that would aim to bring a car dealership and supermarket to the city.
Additionally, a coalition of local churched, Peninsula Interfaith Action, is involved in a separate proposal that is aimed at committing city officials to a supermarket. The group will hold a meeting with city officials tonight to discuss the community's need for a supermarket, rather than a furniture outlet that will cause noise and traffic issues.
The group argues that while there are several small independent grocery stores in the city, there has not been a major supermarket for many years. The PIA says that it is time that they got one, and expects to have a plan in the next six months.
