The often-contentious sale, in which last minute offers were made from rival bidders and state Attorney General Tom Reilly got involved, was overwhelmingly approved with one abstention. Reilly, who was investigating the bidding process and why Henry's group won out over higher bidders, reached an agreement with outgoing Red Sox CEO John Harrington in which an additional $10 million will go to the Yawkey Foundation.

Representatives of the new owners did not return calls by presstime but they have stated that they are interested in renovating Fenway Park rather than relocating the park to a nearby parcel. Jody Matthews, spokesperson for the Red Sox's current owners tells GlobeSt.com, "we cannot comment on the future owner's plans."
