After being selected as one of the torch bearers at the opening of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the 66-year-old, six-foot-two Siegel successfully ran the quarter-mile stretch with other runners, then asked the International Olympic Committee if he could keep the torch as a memento and display it in his Orlando corporate offices at Central Florida Investments Inc. The price of the torch: $350.
A Siegel assistant told GlobeSt.com, "He closed that deal on the spot."
While in Utah, Siegel checked out the opening of a ski resort he developed recently. Miami Beach-born Siegel has offered to give at least 8,000 survivors of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC free stays at his Orlando timeshare properties.
Central Florida Investments is a 33-year-old holding company for Siegel's resort and commercial real estate ventures. CFI's annual average gross sales are $350 million, largely from the Westgate family of resorts that comprise 6,400 existing vacation villas and 130,000 timeshare owners.
