The Atlanta-based company also is scouting locations in Cherry Creek, Highlands Ranch and Colorado Springs. All of the restaurants should be open in the next two years.
The first Ted's Montana Grill opened in Columbus, OH in mid-January and has been able to corral a large number of diners, even though demand at high-end restaurants that typically serve buffalo has dropped since Sept. 11.
Proponents of buffalo meat note that it is healthier than beef or chicken. However, it costs 50% to 100% per pound more than uncooked ground beef.
Columbus, Atlanta and Denver are the test markets for the chain. If the Denver restaurants do as well as expected, the firm may branch out to Kansas, Utah and Oklahoma.
Turner, a large shareholder in AOL Time Warner, also owns the largest private buffalo herd in the US.
