The property--which comprises a 130-acre parcel and a 60-acre parcel--is currently zoned for rural/residential use. "The town has almost no industry now," O'Cain tells GlobeSt.com. "This [rezoning] is to improve the tax base." Both parcels are located right near Route 95.

The Planning Board recently held a public hearing on the issue but due to a technicality it was deemed unofficial and new public hearing will be held next month. O'Cain says that the abutters to the parcel are opposed to the rezoning but he adds, "We haven't heard anything from anyone else."

If the planning board approves the zoning change, it will be voted on at Town Meeting here. The motion will require a two-thirds vote to get passed.
