Pitched at the financial services and retail sectors, Outsmart's model is based on PFI projects where a single consortium owns a building, provides support services and leases it to tenants. The founding companies claim this will help drive down costs for occupiers. The idea came about when BT partnered with Alba Management Consultants to develop it.

Alfred McAlpine Group chief executive Oliver Whitehead commented: 'The current provision of services to buildings is fragmented by both geography and by service type. Outsmart will change this. It will simplify the procurement process, give companies the benefits of closer collaboration and provide a single point of contact for infrastructure issues.'
