Jim Thompson of the Houston office of Grubb & Ellis Co. represented Verizon, which signed the lease under the name GTE Mobilnet of South Texas. Dan Wheat of Barshop & Oles represented the building owner Fry Road Retail Ltd.
The deal is the second this month in the city's western tier for Verizon. A 3,125-sf lease will bring the opening of a store at 2660 Gessner Rd.
Verizon or any of its like credit-worthy subsidiaries is always considered a plum contract to land. Its real estate holdings include a 10,000-sf office spot at the Bunker Hill Building along Houston's Katy Freeway and a $20-million, 520,000-sf network observation and control center in the Solana Complex in Southlake in North Texas.
Verizon is the largest provider of wireless and wireless communications in the US, with 132.1 million access line equivalents and 29.4 million wireless customers. The company has an operating revenue of $67.2 billion.
