The San Diego Port Commission is scheduled to vote on the matter involving the proposed 1,200-room hotel next week. The commissioners made their recommendations after hearing presentation in December from four groups.
The groups included Tishman Urban Development with THR Management and Starwood/Westin hotels; M.L. Hotels, a Marriott entity in conjunction with Landmark Organization LP; Hilton, with Phelps Program Management LLC and Waterford Development and Lankford & Associates; and Maritime Venture Partners with Mesirow Stein Development Services Inc. and Clark ConstructionGroup Inc. as principals.
The Port Commission in February voted to bring all four teams to the final round, which will conclude Tuesday. But Port staff is strongly recommending the Hilton team.
The site has required the demolition of the old Campbell facilities and the remediation work to the tune of $25 million, paid for by the Port District.
The district estimates revenues of $6.7 million annually once the site is filled.
