An office supply store and two rail cars on Highway 101 will be cleared for a Longs Drugs and a Japanese restaurant that could be open by late 2003, according to the developers, Solana Beach Market LLC. The limited-liability partnership leased 18,000 sf of space to the drugstore chain next to Nobu Japanese restaurant.
The train cars will be moved and buildings will be remodeled to house the restaurant and Longs.
The developers say the project will help bolster the community's portion of the highway, which some say has become run-down. The Highway 101 Merchants and Property Owners Association has complained about the area's appearance.
The city will consider permits in July for the project, which also requires approval of the state Coastal Commission.
