The newly constructed, 53,700-sf facility will serve as a central coordination and consolidation point of administrative functions for GMAC's North Central Operations. Central to the facility's design concept was the intent to create a space that encourages interaction between departments, AKA officials say. AKA project designers worked with GMAC to identify and create communication paths, or "diags," to link the outer edges of the building with common spaces in the center of the office. The team also incorporated strong, geometric elements such as a circular-shaped lobby and lunchroom to create motion throughout the space. In addition, AKA interior designers worked with the client to select a bold color palette that would energize the office.
This facility accommodates over 300 employees and provides support services for an array of GMAC field offices.
The time frame for the project was very short, with delivery from concept to occupancy in approximately 10 weeks.
GMAC continues to work with AKA as it modifies work processes and office space throughout North America. To date, AKA has collaborated with GMAC, its vendors, consultants, and employees to complete over 500 projects ranging from 1,200 sf to 50,000 sf.
