The City Council, acting as the Community Development Commission, approved the $2 million sale of a parcel on National City Boulevard to the Southwestern Community College District.

Two weeks ago, crews began clearing buildings on a three-site between Eighth Street and Plaza Boulevard.

The center will include classrooms for Southwestern, San Diego State University and the county Office of Education. When complete in two years, the center will be able to accommodate 10,000 students.
