Iron Mountain is moving into the building at 8661 Kerns St., according to Murphy Development Co., owner of the 116-acre corporate, industrial and technology park. Iron Mountain plans to use the building, constructed by Lusardi Construction Co., as a storage facility.

The city placed the project on a fast-track permit approval process, Murphy officials say. Tenant improvements were finished in just over five months.

With the completion of the storage facility, the 675,000-sf middle phase of the Siempre Viva facility is nearly 100% occupied. Murphy Development recently began construction on the 33-acre eastern phase, which will contain another 650,000 sf of corporate, industrial and R&D.

The developer has completed more than 2 million sf in Otay Mesa and plans another 2.5 million sf in the booming area.
