Wal-Mart Pulls Plug on Super Store Talks

DENVER-Relocation of 25 tenants in the Alameda Square retail center is the sticking point in talks between the Vu family and Bentonville, AR-based retail giant. Mayor Wellington E. Webb staff is involved.

The family that owns the site says it's not a question of the purchase price. Rather, the Vu family wants the city to provide a new center for the 25 tenants in an existing center. Twenty-three of them are Asian Americans.

Tenants include a beauty salon, restaurant and supermarket.

However, it is a difficult task for the city to find a suitable 11-acre site. Nonetheless, a member of the family met with Mayor Wellington E. Webb, and the mayor is studying the issue.
