According to managing partner Steve W. Berman, the Seattle-based firm opened its first east coast office here because "Boston is at the center of the East Coast investment and finance world." The firm appointed Thomas M. Sobol as the office's managing partner. "We have been looking to open an East Coast office, and when the opportunity came to have Tom lead our team, we knew the timing was right," notes Berman.

Prior to joining Hagens Berman, Sobol was a partner in the Boston office of Lieff Cabraser, where he handled complex litigation. At Lieff Cabraser, Sobol led the state in legal action against the country's largest tobacco companies, which resulted in an $8.2-billion settlement. Berman points out that opening this office will help the firm expand its work representing institutional investors, a growing segment of the firm's security litigation practice.

In addition to Boston and Seattle, Hagens Berman has offices in Phoenix and Los Angeles.
