The office is the company's most recent foray outside its headquarters in Wayne, PA. The company previously had an office in Palo Alto, CA, which it closed. A spokesperson for the firm tells GlobeSt.com that the operating company is interested in taking a majority position in high-tech operations and developing them.

"Boston and its surrounding areas are a major center for software development and financing the growth of software companies through acquisition of majority interests in such companies is a key focus of Safeguard's business strategy," says company president and chief executive officer Anthony L. Craig.

The office here will be headed by Bob Crowley, who was appointed as managing director of Safeguard's software operations in May. He most recently was chief executive officer of Bowstreet Inc. Crowley stresses that establishing roots in the area gives the company an edge because of the "significant advancements in software development have taken place over the years."
