A spokesperson for the company tells GlobeSt.com that Orange signed a 12-year lease for the space, which was a series of five warehouses before the company renovated them into one building. Details of the transaction have not being released.

This area was chosen for the firm's flagship research and development facility because of its proximity to venture capital firms as well as to academic institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Laboratory and Harvard University.

The office, called the Orange Innovation Centre, will serve as the headquarters for Orange Ventures and Orangeimagineering, the research arm of the company, which will explore emerging technologies.

The facility will be shared with France Telecom, R&D, which, says Orange, will work with OrangeImagineering. France Telecom owns nearly 85% of Orange.

Orange has operations in 22 countries across Europe. The company currently has over 12.7 million customers in the UK, 18.3 million in France and approximately 40.5 million controlled customers worldwide.
