The residential developer's proposals for the site include approximately 1,000 houses, new local shops, sports and community facilities, a new primary school and more than 100 acres of public open space and woodland. Also included will be a memorial to the Nepalese-born soldiers who died in service while based there.
Atis Real Weatheralls advised Defence Estates, and Director Brian McLeish said: "This is a major brownfield site located in one of the key areas identified for residential development by the government. The barracks does, however, hold a lot of memories for a great many people from the time that it was an operational army base and it is only fitting that a memorial of some kind is placed there in recognition of this."
