"They expressed concern over traffic congestion, parking and security in relationship to their offices. However, since the casinos have come to town, those sentiments have changed," says an official with the group.
Recently, DTE Energy Co. (formerly Detroit Edison) agreed to sell MGM Grand Detroit Casino 25 acres of land for MGM to build it's $500-million permanent casino site.
The land is located next to the DTE headquarters. Officials at DTE have said they agreed to the deal because they think the casino will be a good neighbor.
The gaming group says SBC Ameritech also has MGM Grand for a neighbor, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has Greektown Casino as a neighbor.
"Both have commented that the concerns they had when casinos entered the neighborhood have never posed a problem," according to a gaming group official.
