In New Jersey, the company's remaining stores will be the one located on Route 22 here, plus units in Raritan, Brick Twp., Holmdel, Jersey City, Succasunna and Paramus (located in Garden State Plaza Mall). The units slated to close, which have already posted going-out-of-business-sale notices, are located in Secaucus, Wayne, Lawrenceville (Mercer Mall), Eatontown (Monmouth Mall), Edison, Manalapan and Milltown.

In a prepared statement, Cablevision officials indicated that "we will attempt to place employees from the stores that will be closed in the locations that will remain open." Besides its problems involving the struggling electronics chain, of course, Cablevision has been embroiled in a licensing dispute with the New York Yankee-owned YES network, effectively leaving more than three million tri-state area cable TV customers without Yankee telecasts. Another of Cablevision's units, Clearview Cinemas, has also been a drain on the company's coffers.
