According to Sandra Kunz, a member of CARE, the process could take two years and this lawsuit has to be settled before the runway could be built.

"This is a very contentious situation," Kunz tells GlobeSt.com. She is also a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee, a group that represents 28 communities and works with Massport and the FAA. The CAC voted against the development of the new runway and has been helping CARE in its opposition of the runway.

The FAA's approval allowed the runway--which Massport has been trying to develop for 28 years--but limited its use to extreme wind conditions. It is the first time the FAA Imposed such restrictions on a new runway.

In addition to this lawsuit, the runway faces an even greater hurdle in the form of a 28-year old injunction. The trial to overturn that injunction is scheduled for this coming January.
