The Tennessee-based retailer will open Oct. 1 in 7,705 sf at the Lancaster East Shopping Center at 4729 E. Lancaster Ave. The retailer has not picked an opening date for the 7,582-sf inline space at 14030 Josey Lane in Farmers Branch, but is planning a fall launch as well.
A Dollar General contact tells GlobeSt.com that Texas isn't getting any more of the company's attention than any other state despite this year's steady stream of openings from border to border. The discount retailer has pushed its portfolio to 5,500 locations in 27 southeastern and central states, of which 50% have opened in the last five years. The contact says 600 stores will be added this year and another 600 locations will be sought for the 2003 docket.
There are now 170 stores in Dallas-Fort Worth, with plans to add at least two more before the year ends, says Tim Donovan of Dallas-based Weitzman Group. He and Robb Parks brokered the deals for Dollar General. The Fort Worth location is owned by Briarwood Lancaster LP while the Farmers Branch center is a holding of Kelly Moore Point Co. of Dallas, both of which used in-house brokers to negotiate the terms.
