Instead, however, as company officials told GlobeSt.com in February 2001, another possibility was that the current Domino's Farms office complex owned by former Domino's owner Tom Monaghan would instead undergo massive renovation.
The pizza-making company decided to stay at home.
Gail Staden of Rossetti Associates Inc. says the design firm has been awarded the renovation project.
No cost estimates for the project have been released. However, a new lease has been signed by the company.
"The planning steps haven't begun yet," Staden says. "We're basically doing about 200,000-sf of tenant improvements."
She adds the construction manager should be hired by the end of September, and the pre-construction phase should be complete by the end of first quarter 2003.
Monaghan, who now runs the Ave Maria Foundation, leases the building to all sorts of tenants, as well as Domino's Pizza LLC, which is now owned by Bain Capital Inc. of Boston.
Holly Ryan of Domino's Pizza says the plan is to consolidate the space better for the company.
"It was obvious we need to do something about the room we currently have," Ryan says, adding there had been rumors the company would move into a new 200,000-sf office development across the street, planned by Kojaian Cos. of Bloomfield Hills.
However, Domino's officials last year assured GlobeSt.com those were only rumors.
Now, the company will just consolidate offices in the two-building complex.
Ryan says a few tenants may be moved in the project while space is undergoing renovations, and no one will be forced out.
