A town representative tells GlobeSt.com that Westborough is discussing "tentative agreements" with MassDevelopment, the state's economic development agency. She says that 14 acres of the property runs along Route 9 and MassDevelopment has proposed developing office space on that site. Calls to MassDevelopment were not returned by press time but according to local published reports, the agency wants to see 120,000 sf of commercial space developed there.
The town representative says that the agency wants to develop 40 housing units on the remaining 13 acres with 50% of those units affordable housing. "We are at the very beginning stages of talking," she emphasizes. The next step, she says, is to market the property to commercial developers.
