As part of the renovation, the property's original structure has been demolished and a new 49,520-sf clubhouse and 6,900-sf fitness center are rising in its place. At build-out, the new Thunderbird Country Club will feature a stone veneer exterior and concrete roof tiles. Inside, the facility will boast stone tile, marble, custom casework and granite features. Interior amenities will include a wine cellar, four fireplaces and a water feature. Completion is slated for October 2003.

Located at 70-612 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, Thunderbird first opened its doors for business on January 8, 1951. Created by amateur golf champion Johnny Dawson, the club brought several new innovations to the golf industry including the desert's first 18-hole golf course, the first electric buggy and cart paths and the golf course residential community concept.
