Borders will offer more than 200,000 book, music, DVD and periodical titles.

Borders selected the Brighton location based on a variety of factor, including demographics, traffic patterns, the availability of parking and the attractiveness of the site, store officials say.

"Brighton is a satellite community close in proximity to Detroit, Ann Arbor and Lansing that has seen enormous residential growth in the past few years," says Amy Beth Edwards, district manager for the Brighton location.

Just 50% of Borders' title base is common to all stores, while the other half is customized to the location. Borders also offers Cafe Borders.

The company operates 375 Borders domestic superstores, 23 international Borders stores, 36 Books etc. locations and approximately 811 Waldenbooks stores. However, the Waldenbooks division may go through tightening.

Nine under-performing stores were closed in the second quarter. Sales from the division were minus-0.6%. Borders Group officials say they may close as many as 150 more Waldenbooks stores to put the division in the black.
