He says bringing in mixed-use properties into the Downtown Development Authority area has been something that the city has been encouraging. Mayor David Katulic agreed, saying the city wants more diversity.
"Such a development would fit in well with our master plan, adopted in June 2000," Johnson says.
The meeting was just to get reaction to ideas, not to give any sort of approval, Johnson says. He adds he's not sure when the project would come before the city planning commission.
Dorchen declined comment.
Most of the buildings in Rochester are either retail or residential, with little office or industry. The Downtown is known as one of the best in the state.
