Kirksey Architects and Alliance Construction already are at work designing the complex. Ground will break in the fall, with delivery slated for winter 2003.
"The donation of this land is crucial to the project," said Darwin Barnett, executive director of South Montgomery County YMCA. The organization is following a long-range plan to get its programs into the 27,000-acre Woodlands' newer communities.
Darwin said two branch locations and Cochran's Crossing center will be merged as a result of the project. The facility is being designed with a full-size gymnasium, fitness and strength center, fitness classroom and child watch area. It also will boast a large, outdoor water park pool and indoor climbing center, with walls and rope courses.
