Madam Tussauds Owner Plans $62.3M Theme Park Hotel

LONDON-Tussauds Group, owner of the world famous waxworks, is planning a pounds 40 million ($62.3 million) expansion of its Alton Towers theme park with a new 216-room hotel.

It will be the biggest water-park facility in the UK and will add 40,000 sf to Alton Tower's existing capacity for paying guests. The Alton Towers site totals 400 acres, most of this is taken up by the historic house and gardens.

Alton Towers already has a 175-room hotel but this only operates at full capacity during the park's main summer season, falling to 19% in the closed season. Tussauds plans to get around this problem by including a conference centre at the new hotel.
