Houston-based Reh Burwell Partners, which has an Austin office, designed the $3-million facility. It accommodates administrative, social service and food preparation functions. With the state-of-the-art cooking operations, Meals on Wheels can cook four times more meals. It was working at 25% over capacity in a kitchen in its previous location at 2222 Rosewood Ave.

"Meals on Wheels was feeling the pressure of pent-up growth over the past several years," John Knowles, Reh Burwell's partner in charge, said in a press release. "This new space will allow the organization to fulfill their current program needs with ample room for expansion." About 3,000 Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver 1,800 meals per week in the Austin area.
