IMS is a 54-year-old metal service and retail center serving a wide variety of customers, ranging from studios and engineers, artists and set designers to machine shops and contractors. The new headquarters, at 8300 San Fernando Rd. replaces its former facility in Burbank, Calif. and employs approximately 220 workers. Oltmans erected the building for Sylmar, Calif.-based The Hewson Co., the construction manager for IMS, which also has branches in Irvine, Calif., San Diego, and Phoenix.
Designed by Hill Pinckert Architects of Irvine, Calif., the new IMS headquarters is a concrete tilt-up building with 20,000 sf of mezzanine office space, 118,000 sf of 30-foot clear space, an air-conditioned warehouse, and ground-level loading.
