Whataburger signed a long-term lease for a pad site to build a 30,949-sf restaurant, with its familiar orange pitched roof, that will come on line at the same time as the center. Ed James of Moody Rambin Interests represented the tenant in the lease negotiations. The 50-year-old chain has 575 restaurants in seven southern states and Juarez and Tampico, Mexico.

David Meyers was the in-house representative for property owner, Houston-based NewQuest Properties. Meyers tells GlobeSt.com that the inline space in the center is 85% to 90% leased. As for the pad sites, NewQuest currently is negotiating with two users, including a bank.

Meyers says Antoine Town Center is filling quickly because it is being driven by the strength of its grocery anchor. He says this is the case with all inline space in the market right now as strong anchors attract smaller retailers to the inline space. The unanchored centers, he contends, are finding the market particularly challenging these days.
