Auto Zone acquired the pad site from a six-acre tract that Houston's NewQuest Properties has been selling piecemeal rather than develop another retail center in the immediate area, NewQuest's David Meyers tells GlobeSt.com. The acreage is located near NewQuest's 116,251-sf, Kroger-anchored Antoine Town Center.
McDonalds and Exxon already opened stores on pad sites pulled from the six acres. Meyers says 2 1/2 acres are still up for grabs. The surrounding area is home to more than 300,000 residents, according to the 2000 US Census. The annual average household income is about $55,000.
Auto Zone expects to open in first quarter 2003. Rob Naggar of Naggar Realty represented Auto Zone in the land purchase. Auto Zone has 3,000 stores in the US and Mexico, with more than 18 situated in the Houston area.
