Beall's is putting Phil Knuth in charge of the new 55,000-sf store, larger than the previous 30,000-sf location.

Knuth is transferring from Beall's Orlando store to be senior store manager in Eustis and area supervisor for five other Beall's units in Central Florida.

The new location is at U.S. 441 North and David Walker Drive, about a quarter of a mile from the six-story hospital nearing completion on U.S. 441 North. Watkins Retail Group of Atlanta is developing the 22-acre Eustis Village retail center.

Perregine Properties Inc. of San Francisco will be developing an adjoining 22-acre tract for another retail venture next year.

Beall's plans to use the Eustis Square store as a discount clearance operation. Beall's officials couldn't be reached at GlobeSt.com's publication deadline to learn the cost of the new store.

But area construction industry estimators familiar with the retail construction market tell GlobeSt.com on condition of anonymity the store couldn't be built for less than $90 per sf or about $5 million.

Following Beall's to Eustis Village Oct. 9 will be Publix Supermarkets Inc., moving into a 41,000-sf location.

The Publix and Beall's moves follows Wal-Mart's decision four years ago to leave Eustis Square for a 250,000-sf, stand-alone Super Wal-Mart off U.S. 441 South in Mount Dora, FL.

Tenants occupying about one million sf of retail have made lateral moves in the Triangle Area of Mount Dora, Eustis and Tavares in the past five years, according to GlobeSt.com research.
