This new public facility would have been designed to serve as a DPW for two local school districts as well. However, a new administration was voted into office in November 1999, and the development idea was put on indefinite hold. The new City Council and administration will discuss expanding its current DPW building on Auburn Road at a meeting Wednesday night. The Hamlin Road property will be considered, but it is not likely to gain favor.

Council members and City officials say a new DPW building would cost $22 million on the Hamlin site, and $13 million on the Auburn site. City Finance Director Bob Spaman said the City plans to place the Letica property back on the market if it is not used for a DPW site.

Rochester Schools district also owns 12 adjacent acres that it had purchased for the DPW use. District officials said they are discussing what to do with that property. It's unlikely it would be used for a new school.
